A twenty-year-old surf club teaching at Porto da Cruz and Machico that will collect the whole family from Funchal.
For a family staying in Funchal without a car this is the practical option: 65 € a head buys the lesson and the round trip, about four hours in all with ninety minutes in the water. Groups are capped at eight, and rather than cancel the club moves between three beaches as the swell dictates. It publishes no minimum age and no child-specific lesson, so with a young child ask first and consider the private lesson instead.
Worth knowing: Do not book anything for the rest of the day. The club says outright that the sea decides the lesson time and asks families to stay flexible; after booking you are added to a WhatsApp group for the updates.
