Guided canyoning from Curral das Freiras with abseils, slides and jumps to fifteen metres, on a beginners' level that starts at age twelve.

Twelve is a real minimum here, and that is the whole decision: useful for a family with teenagers, useless for one with primary-school children, who should look instead at the operators who set the bar at seven or nine. Level 2 is about two hours in the canyon inside a half-day trip, the group is capped at twelve so nobody waits long, and photographs and video are included rather than sold afterwards. The water is cold all year and wetsuit fit for smaller teenagers is hit and miss.

Worth knowing: Book Level 2 in the morning: the Curral valley clouds over in the afternoon and the water feels far colder once the sun is off it. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before, with a weather guarantee.

Opening hours

The operator publishes no opening hours. Phone before you drive.

Prices

Level 2, the beginners' trip, 80 € a person - the same for a twelve-year-old as for an adult. Level 3 is 150 € and Level 4 is 200 €, neither aimed at children. Guides, equipment, photographs, insurance, transport and a snack are included.
