Urgent Renovations Needed at Porto Santo Airport, Says Regional President

Miguel Albuquerque, the President of Madeira's Regional Government, has emphasized the pressing need for renovations at Porto Santo Airport. The proposed upgrades, particularly on the apron and terminal, are aimed at improving the airport's infrastructure and operational capabilities.

During a recent visit to an industrial unit in Madeira, Albuquerque highlighted the difficulties in finding companies capable of executing the necessary works at the airport. He pointed out that ANA, the airport management company, has struggled to secure contractors for the project.

The significance of these renovations extends beyond mere infrastructure improvements. The airport is a vital link for both residents and tourists, facilitating travel to and from the island of Porto Santo, often referred to as the 'golden island' for its stunning beaches and unique charm.

Albuquerque also drew attention to the operational issues faced by Binter, the airline servicing the island. He attributed some of these challenges to the state's lack of support in improving airport facilities, which has, in turn, affected the airline's performance.

In a related development, the Socialist Party (PS) has also advocated for the swift commencement of these renovations, underscoring the project's importance for the island's economic and social vitality.
