Hiking Incident at Pico Ruivo
On May 9th, a 28-year-old English tourist suffered a fractured ankle while hiking on the trail of Pico Ruivo, the highest peak in Madeira. The challenging terrain necessitated the deployment of six rescuers from the Bombeiros Voluntários de Santana, who worked diligently to transport her to safety. The rescue operation, which lasted approximately three hours, concluded with the tourist being taken to the Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça for medical attention.
Disturbance in Funchal
In a separate incident on the night of May 8th, a 33-year-old French tourist caused a disturbance on Avenida Sá Carneiro in Funchal. The local authorities responded promptly, and she was escorted to the Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça by the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses, accompanied by the Public Security Police (PSP).
Boat Accident at Marina da Quinta do Lorde
Earlier on May 8th, a boat capsized at the Marina da Quinta do Lorde, Caniçal, leading to another tourist injury. A 76-year-old woman experienced bodily pain after the incident caused by rough seas. She was swiftly attended to by the Bombeiros Municipais de Machico and taken to the Emergency Department of the Machico Health Center.
