A new SIGA bus route between Funchal and the Cristo Rei area in Caniço starts running on Monday, Funchal Notícias and JM Madeira report. According to JM Madeira, it is route number 560.

The bus leaves from near the cable car in the Zona Velha of Funchal, runs along Rua Brigadeiro Oudinot and Campo da Barca and takes the expressway to the Garajau exit. It continues along Estrada do Garajau and Estrada do Cristo Rei to Café Jardim, next to Quinta Splendida. Some journeys go on to Reis Magos and also serve the area between Picos and Edifício Ventura.

The route runs in both directions. JM Madeira lists eight journeys a day on weekdays during school term, seven during school holidays and two on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

The route comes from an addendum to the public bus concession contract that the Regional Government signed with the operator CAM this year. According to JM Madeira, the addendum also adds Aerobus journeys between the airport and Funchal and more services on the Machico, Santa Cruz and Funchal corridor.
