The international ornithological exhibition will bring about 1,700 competing birds and 126 registered breeder-exhibitors to Santo António.

The official presentation of MIBE II, Madeira International Bird Exhibition 2026 took place on Monday, 19 October, in the atrium of Funchal City Hall. The exhibition will be held from 23 to 25 October at the Pavilhão dos Trabalhadores in Santo António, Funchal.

MIBE II is an international ornithological exhibition organised by the Associação Ornitológica da Madeira, co-organised with the Federação Ornitológica Nacional Portuguesa and held under the aegis of the Confederação Ornitológica Mundial. The Municipality of Funchal supports the event, which follows its first edition in 2024.

The 2026 edition has about 1,700 birds in competition, including approximately 1,000 from mainland Portugal. There are 126 registered breeder-exhibitors from Madeira, the Azores, mainland Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.

At the presentation, councillor Helena Leal said the initiative has been growing and is important to Funchal's international standing in ornithology. She said it contributes to local economic activity, sports tourism, and cultural, educational and social value, while allowing the public to learn more about ornithology. Leal also reiterated the municipality's willingness to continue supporting initiatives of this kind.
