The Junta de Freguesia recalled Filomena Mina's 40 years of service to Santo da Serra residents after her death.
Doctor Filomena Mina, who dedicated much of her life to the Centro de Saúde do Santo da Serra, has died aged 72, according to Diário de Notícias Madeira.
The Junta de Freguesia recognised her 40 years of service to local residents. It said she had been a pillar of humanity, a refuge and a friendly presence for many local families in difficult times, and that her dedication went beyond professional duty.
The Junta said Rua Dra. Filomena Mina, in the centre of the freguesia, would now carry even greater meaning as a lasting testimony to her connection with the history and identity of local people.
According to Diário de Notícias Madeira, Mina said goodbye in August last year to the health centre where she had worked for four decades. Messages of condolence have been appearing on social media.
