Five Madeiran firms showcase food and drink at Paris fair
Madeiran companies are seeking new commercial links and overseas markets at the Salon International de l'Alimentation in Paris, with regional support coordinated by Invest Madeira.
Five Madeiran companies are taking part in the Salon International de l'Alimentation at the Parc des Expositions de Paris-Nord Villepinte, which runs until 21 October. The delegation includes IlhoPan, Sweets & Sugar, IlhaPeixe, Martins & Martins and Tequerys, Lda.
The companies are represented in the Regional Government's institutional space in a participation promoted by Invest Madeira, which is overseen by the Regional Secretariat for the Economy. The aim is to expand access to external markets, establish commercial relationships and promote Madeiran food and drink offerings.
José Manuel Rodrigues, Madeira's regional secretary for the Economy, said in Paris that international promotion is important to help companies overcome the constraints of insularity and outermost-region status and contribute to the region's economic growth. He said the participating businesses already sell in mainland Portugal and European markets, including France.
This is the Regional Government's third participation in SIAL through Invest Madeira. Rodrigues described the fair as the leading showcase for the food and beverage sector; the reports say this year's edition has about 8,000 exhibitors from 194 countries.
During the five days of the fair, the companies have dedicated areas for presentations and tastings, as well as opportunities to contact potential clients, hold business meetings and join professional-programme initiatives. Invest Madeira is providing ongoing support to the regional participation.
On the sidelines of the fair, Rodrigues discussed the worsening cost of living linked to rising fuel prices and their effects on essential goods. He admitted possible support measures for companies and families, including fiscal measures, in the next regional budget.
