Madeira Wine Triumphs at National Wine Competition

The Madeira wine industry celebrated a significant achievement as the Henriques & Henriques Boal 30 Years was recognized as the 'Best Fortified Wine of the Year' at the 13th Concurso Vinhos de Portugal. This esteemed award ceremony, organized by ViniPortugal, took place in the historic Palácio dos Duques de Cadaval in Évora.
The competition, which is a highlight in the Portuguese wine calendar, saw participation from 1,170 national wine entries. Over three days, 141 experts including enologists, sommeliers, and wine educators evaluated these entries to determine the winners.
The president of the Institute of Wine, Embroidery, and Handicrafts of Madeira, Tiago Freitas, attended the gala and took pride in the accolade, stating it underscores the excellence and quality of Madeira wines.
Concurso Vinhos de Portugal awarded a total of 351 distinctions, which included 30 Grand Gold medals, 87 Gold medals, and 234 Silver medals. This event not only celebrates the diversity and quality of Portuguese wines but also serves as a networking platform for producers and wine experts from around the globe.
