Madeira hospital tender deadline extended to 13 October
Madeira GuideThe third-phase tender for Madeira's new central and university hospital has a new deadline, while PS-M seeks an explanation from the Regional Government.
The deadline for bids for the third phase of the Hospital Central e Universitário da Madeira has been extended to 13 October. The phase was put out to tender for a second time after the first tender received no bids.
The current procedure has a base price of 415 million euros, compared with an initial value of 265 million euros. The regional secretary for Equipment and Infrastructures said international instability had increased oil and energy costs, and consequently the costs of materials and raw materials.
The third phase is to provide general infrastructure, finishes and technical installations. The work is currently stopped.
PS-M called on the Regional Government to publicly explain the extension. It said any extension to the bid-submission deadline must have a basis in the legal framework for public procurement, and asked how many company bids had been received for the phase as of 28 September.
The party also questioned why the decision was communicated at the last minute. It linked the timing to the eve of the president of the Regional Government's trip to Lisbon to meet the prime minister, and asked whether the delay was related to waiting for a written national-government commitment to finance 50% of the project or for hospital funding to appear in the State Budget. PS said the latest delay was another setback for the project.
