The Francisco Franco Secondary School in Madeira is hosting a series of events today to celebrate Europe Day. This initiative, organized by the Directorate of European Affairs, highlights 40 years of the Autonomous Region of Madeira's integration into the European Union.
The celebration kicks off at 1:30 PM with a conference titled "40 years of European Integration of the Autonomous Region of Madeira," held in the school's session room. Fernanda Cardoso, the Regional Director for European Affairs, will deliver the keynote speech.
In addition to the conference, the school will host an exhibition that showcases the historical journey and achievements of Madeira since joining the EU. These activities are part of the EPAS (European Parliament Ambassador Schools) project, aimed at fostering European awareness and education among students.
Europe Day, celebrated annually on May 9th, commemorates the Schuman Declaration of 1950, which is considered the beginning of the European Union. The day's events provide a platform for students and the community to reflect on the significant impact of European integration on Madeira.
