Funchal's emergency services had a hectic day on May 10, 2026, as they responded to multiple incidents across the city. The first incident involved an elderly man who suffered minor injuries after falling while disembarking from a bus near the Marina Shopping roundabout. He was promptly attended to by the firefighters from Bombeiros Sapadores do Funchal and transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further care.
In another incident, a taxi van was completely destroyed by a fire on the exit ramp of the highway leading to Santo António, in the direction of Câmara de Lobos-Funchal. The fire, which required the presence of six firefighters and two fire engines, left the vehicle entirely charred. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
Earlier in the day, a 67-year-old female passenger was found unconscious inside a bus on Avenida do Mar. The Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses rushed to the scene and transported her to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça after providing initial medical assistance.
