CDS-PP Madeira Advocates for Therapeutic Community to Combat Drug Dependency

The CDS-PP Madeira has once again voiced its commitment to establishing a therapeutic community in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, emphasizing the urgent need to tackle the growing issue of drug dependency. The party's president, José Manuel Rodrigues, has been a proponent of this initiative for over three decades, underlining its importance in light of the current drug abuse situation in local communities.
This renewed call comes after Rodrigues concluded a 45-day tour visiting various mental health institutions, an effort organized by the Juventude Popular with support from the CDS-PP. During a visit to the Casa de Saúde São João de Deus, Rodrigues highlighted the detrimental impact of today's competitive society and certain new technologies on mental health, which exacerbates issues of anxiety and substance abuse.
Rodrigues expressed particular concern over the rise in consumption of new psychoactive substances, such as 'Bloom,' which are increasingly popular among the youth. He stressed the necessity for a dedicated therapeutic structure to address this growing threat and pledged to continue advocating for this solution with the Regional Government.
In addition to advocating for the therapeutic community, CDS-PP Madeira plans to discuss the introduction of 'protected employment' legislation. This initiative aims to facilitate the social reintegration of individuals leaving mental health institutions, allowing them to work a few hours a day and thus contribute meaningfully to society.
The proposal underscores the importance of comprehensive support for those struggling with addiction, noting that employment can play a vital role in recovery and reintegration. By collaborating with various institutions, the CDS-PP hopes to foster legislative changes that will support these vulnerable groups effectively.
