Madeira Island, a popular tourist destination known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, has recently been the scene of several unfortunate incidents requiring emergency response.

Motorcycle Accident in Câmara de Lobos

On April 30, 2026, a young motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a car on Estrada João Gonçalves Zarco in Câmara de Lobos. The 21-year-old sustained minor injuries and was promptly taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça by the Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Firefighters.

Elderly Man Injured in Funchal

Earlier on the same day, an elderly man in his 70s suffered a fall from a height of two meters in the gardens of Bairro da Ajuda, Funchal. He sustained a clavicular fracture and a head injury. Madeira's volunteer firefighters immobilized him before transporting him to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

Electrical Fire Near a Church

On April 29, 2026, an electrical fire broke out in cables along Caminho das Voltas, Funchal, near a church. The Madeira Volunteer Firefighters, with a team of five and a heavy vehicle, managed to control the situation promptly.

Cardiac Arrest in Travessa dos Reis

On April 28, 2026, a man suffered a cardiac arrest in Travessa dos Reis, Funchal. Thanks to the quick response by EMIR and the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters, the man was resuscitated and transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

These incidents highlight the vigilance and efficiency of Madeira's emergency services, ensuring the safety and well-being of both locals and tourists.
