A former Blandy estate ten minutes from the airport with fallow deer, Garrano ponies, peacocks and guinea fowl, wide lawns to run on and a viewpoint over the Machico valley.

The animals are the reason to bring children, and the lawns and old exotic trees are the reason it works better than a formal garden: there is room to run and nobody minds. It is quieter than anything comparable near Funchal. On a clear day the miradouro at the far end of the park sees Ponta de São Lourenço and Porto Santo.

Worth knowing: Payment goes through the regional SIMplifica portal and nobody publishes gate hours - phone the forestry institute before driving over, particularly out of season.

Opening hours

The operator publishes no opening hours. Phone before you drive.

Prices

3 € for anyone over 12, free for children of 12 and under. Ticketing runs through simplifica.madeira.gov.pt; whether you can simply walk up and pay is not confirmed.

Getting there

Prices and opening times change without notice, and on this island they change often. Everything here carries the date it was checked in our research notes; if a place has moved or closed, tell us and we will fix it.
