The three or four thatched A-frame houses beside Santana's town hall, free to walk round and about twenty minutes of a family's day.

Know before the drive north that this is a small paved cluster and not a village: reviewers who expect a hamlet find three or four buildings, and the houses trade as craft and produce shops rather than standing as museums. It costs nothing, which makes it the honest alternative to the thirteen-euro theme park a few hundred metres away - though families who have paid say the replicas there are better made and far quieter. Coach tours land mid-morning and fill the square.

Worth knowing: Park at the theme park rather than fighting for the town-hall spaces: it is free, usually empty and two minutes' walk away.

Free to walk round the outside. What is open inside depends on the shopkeepers, and nobody publishes their hours.
