A broad, level, compacted levada path above Camacha that a pushchair genuinely handles, walkable for twenty minutes or four hours with a turn back wherever the children have had enough.

The channel holds its contour all the way from Camacha towards Choupana above Funchal - about an hour and a half each way if you walk the lot - so there is no climb and no stepped section. An accessible-tourism operator runs wheelchair trips on this stretch, which says more about the surface than any review, and nothing in the sources reports the exposed unfenced ledges the famous levadas have. The difference from Balcões is that this one is free, unbooked and never full; the price is scenery that stays eucalyptus and glimpses rather than building to a viewpoint, and children want a destination.

Worth knowing: Start at the Achadinha end in Camacha, walk out as far as the smallest child holds up, then turn round - the wicker showroom and the village cafés are the reward at the end.

Season

South-facing and low enough to walk all year, which is its advantage over Ribeiro Frio in winter.
