MOTYA
Coffee is a hug in a mug.
A specialty coffee bar fifty metres from the Sé in Funchal, late on an autumn afternoon: espresso, tea in big pots and mochi made by hand behind the counter. Sit on the terrace, then step inside.
Rua João Tavira, 8
Mochi made by hand, behind the Sé
Motya calls itself Madeira's first specialty coffee bar, and a member of the Specialty Coffee Association. There are always two espressos, one brighter and one darker, filter coffee by V60, AeroPress or syphon, and more than twenty organic teas in half-litre pots. The mochi are made here by hand at the back bar, with no gluten, butter or eggs: lavender and blueberry, coffee caramel, pistachio and raspberry, rose and strawberry at the weekend.
