"Rituais de Passagem: A MORTE" is a temporary exhibition at the Museu Etnográfico da Madeira, open from 29 October to 5 December 2026. It comes out of the museum's research into the funeral rites of the island's communities, which it treats as intangible cultural heritage, and follows how those customs changed over time. Many of the old practices, once organised by families and neighbours helping each other, faded or vanished as society changed and funeral agencies took over. A short, quiet visit that says more about everyday island life than most attractions do; combine it with the rest of the museum.
The museum is in Ribeira Brava, on the south coast west of Funchal. Regional buses run there from Funchal; the listing gives no other directions.
