The UIPM Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run World Championships take over the São Lázaro Nautical Centre on Funchal's seafront from 26 October to 1 November. Biathle pairs running with open-water swimming; triathle adds laser shooting; laser run combines running and shooting. The programme runs through semi-finals, mixed relays and individual finals, with para-athlete events and medals in every age group. For a visitor the appeal is simple: athletes from around the world racing in and beside the Atlantic, right in the city, easy to fit between other plans.
Practical information
The venue is on the seafront, a walk along the waterfront from the city centre and the cruise terminal; no car needed.
Swimming and running take place outdoors on the seafront; bring a layer, and check the official website for schedule changes if the sea is rough.
