Madeiran artist Nuno Henrique's touring exhibition opens on Thursday 5 November at 17:30 in the Torre do Capitão, the historic and museum site of Santo Amaro, and stays until 28 February 2027. It arrives from Galeria 111 in Lisbon and starts its national tour here, under the artistic direction of MUDAS, the contemporary art museum of Madeira. The starting point is Wollastonaria turricula, a vulnerable land snail found only on Ilhéu de Cima off Porto Santo: the installation turns it into sculptures and drawings in cardboard, plexiglass, paper, plaster, wood and ceramics, a reflection on ecology and how fragile beauty is. Accompanying texts are by Óscar Faria and Dinarte Teixeira. With nearly four months on show, it is an easy one to fit into a week on the island rather than a reason to plan around the opening night.
The Torre do Capitão is in Santo Amaro, in the western upper part of Funchal. The listing gives no bus or parking details; a taxi from the centre is the simplest option.
