"Dear Lourdes," opens at Galeria Tratuário on 5 November 2026 at 18:00 and runs until 8 January 2027. Leah Singer and Lee Ranaldo set their own work beside that of the Madeiran artist Lourdes de Castro. Ranaldo met Castro in Funchal in 2011 and came home with her books; Singer, who had been working with the silhouette since the early 1990s without knowing of Castro, saw her own practice in them. She never met Castro and calls the bond a "ghost friendship". The title, with its trailing comma, reads like the start of a letter and nods to Castro's family albums of cut-outs and texts. Worth an hour for anyone who knows Castro's shadow work, or wants an introduction to it.
