A new digital map created by local youth in Madeira aims to address accessibility challenges in public spaces, spotlighting areas needing improvement.

In a groundbreaking initiative, young residents of Madeira have developed a digital map designed to highlight and report accessibility issues across the region. This project, backed by the Associação My Madeira Island and co-funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ Programme, aims to improve public access to essential services and spaces.

The project, titled 'Inclusive Cities: Youth for Accessible Urban Spaces,' was inspired by the daily struggles faced by residents and tourists in navigating public areas such as post offices, youth centers, and administrative buildings. The map allows users to pinpoint locations where accessibility practices fall short, thus encouraging transparency and accountability.

This digital tool not only serves as a platform for highlighting existing problems but also acts as a catalyst for change, urging local authorities to take actionable steps towards making Madeira more accessible for everyone, including residents with disabilities and visiting tourists.

Madeira, known for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture, now sees its youth leading the charge in creating a more inclusive environment. The initiative underscores the importance of community involvement in addressing local challenges and fostering a more equitable society.
