This Saturday, Madeira is expected to experience mostly cloudy skies, strong winds, and occasional rain, with possible snow at higher altitudes.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has forecasted a day of generally very cloudy weather for Madeira this Saturday. Residents and tourists should be prepared for occasional showers, primarily affecting the northern slopes and highlands of the island. There is even a possibility of snow at the highest elevations, a rare occurrence for the region.

Winds are expected to be moderate to strong, ranging from 20 to 40 km/h from the northeast. In the highlands, winds could strengthen further, blowing at 35 to 50 km/h with gusts potentially reaching up to 75 km/h. This weather pattern prompts the Capitania do Porto do Funchal to update its warnings regarding strong winds, advising caution for maritime activities.

For those unfamiliar with Madeira’s geography, the island’s terrain varies significantly, with steep slopes and elevated regions that are often subject to different weather conditions compared to coastal areas. The possibility of snow in the highest points adds an unusual twist to the island's typical subtropical climate.

Visitors planning outdoor activities should consider these conditions and possibly adjust their plans accordingly. Locals are advised to secure any outdoor items that could be affected by strong winds.
