Sad Farewells to Beloved Residents of Madeira

The week has brought sorrow to the communities of Campanário, Porto Moniz, and São Martinho as they bid farewell to three beloved individuals. The funerals of Joaquim Rodrigues Mano, Manuel João Teixeira, and Agostinho Gonçalves Figueira are set to take place, each leaving behind a legacy cherished by family, friends, and neighbors.

Joaquim Rodrigues Mano, a respected resident of Campanário, passed away on February 24, 2026. Known for his kindness and devotion to his community, he leaves behind his wife, Maria Manuela Barros dos Reis, and his children and grandchildren. His funeral will occur on Wednesday, February 25, with a mass at the church of São Brás, followed by a procession to the local cemetery.

Manuel João Teixeira, a cherished member of the Porto Moniz community, also departed on February 24, 2026. His family, including his children and grandchildren, will honor his memory with a service at the church of Santa Maria Madalena on Wednesday, followed by interment at the local cemetery. A 7th-day mass will take place on February 28.

Agostinho Gonçalves Figueira, originally from Campanário and a resident of São Martinho, passed away on February 23, 2026. His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, starting from the church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário and proceeding to the church of São Brás in Campanário. His family, including great-grandchildren, will gather to celebrate his life and legacy.
