In a significant move to preserve and promote local heritage, the Câmara da Ribeira Brava has officially classified the Capela do Bom Despacho and Solar do Morgado as a Monument of Municipal Interest. This designation, approved in a council meeting after a period of public consultation, highlights the cultural and historical importance of these sites located in the picturesque area of Vigia, Campanário.
The decision is expected to unlock avenues for public funding aimed at the conservation and restoration of these historic structures. According to Jorge Santos, President of the Câmara da Ribeira Brava, this classification not only safeguards the local heritage but also boosts the cultural and tourism appeal of the region.
The Capela do Bom Despacho and Solar do Morgado, associated with the historical figure Jerónimo de Atouguia Bettencourt, are significant both architecturally and historically. By securing this status, they can now access financial support for necessary maintenance and restoration, ensuring their preservation for future generations.
Additionally, the council meeting also saw the approval of various social support measures, including the issuance of 12 new Municipal Senior Citizen Cards, which now benefit 671 residents by subsidizing medication, diapers, and medical exams. The new regulation also introduces the Solidarity Senior Transport service, facilitating mobility for senior citizens.
Furthermore, the council approved the renovation of another deteriorating home, marking the sixth such project since the current administration began in October. This initiative forms part of a broader effort to enhance living conditions for residents in need.
