PCP urges Madeira public administration workers to join 2 October strike

The PCP has urged workers in general Public Administration careers to join the national strike scheduled for 2 October. In Madeira, the protest day will include a gathering at 11:00 on Avenida Zarco, next to the Palácio do Governo.
The strike covers general careers in central, regional and local Public Administration. CGTP union structures called the strike.
Ricardo Lume said Madeira workers have additional reasons to take part because the region has the country's highest inflation. He also accused the Regional Government of failing to fulfil promises to value careers.
The PCP said these workers are essential to public services in Health, Education, Social Security, urban hygiene, water supply, Justice, Culture, Environment, Sport, Security, Research and Science, and Defence. It said many are poorly paid despite decades of service, and that rising living costs have worsened the situation.
The demands include recognition of the professions' specific nature, immediate career valorisation and the immediate start of negotiation processes. According to Diário de Notícias Madeira, the national strike covers about 350,000 workers, including senior technicians, technical assistants and operational assistants.
