In the past few days, Madeira has witnessed a spate of traffic incidents that have kept emergency services on high alert. Car Accident in Santa Rita
On March 6, 2026, a young driver was involved in a car accident on Caminho das Quebradas, Santa Rita. The accident resulted from the car veering off the road and crashing into an electricity pole. The driver, though able to walk away from the crash, suffered from cervical pain and headaches. He was promptly attended to by the Funchal Fire Brigade and transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for further evaluation.
Motorcycle Collision on the Expressway
Earlier the same day, a collision between a car and a motorcycle occurred on the expressway in Santa Rita. The car rear-ended the motorcycle, causing injuries to the young motorcyclist, who reported ankle pain. Similar to the previous incident, emergency services were swift in their response, transporting the injured rider to the hospital.
Separate Motorcycle Incident
In another incident, a 27-year-old motorcyclist was involved in a crash on the expressway to Camacha on the evening of March 5, 2026. The motorcyclist reported injuries to the lower back and was transported to the hospital by the Santa Cruz Fire Brigade.
Car Fire Contained Near Expressway
Additionally, on March 4, 2026, a vehicle fire was reported on the access road to the expressway from Pilar. The fire was quickly extinguished by the driver before the arrival of a heavy firefighting vehicle from the Funchal Fire Brigade.
