Madeira witnessed a series of unfortunate events on March 7, 2026, involving multiple traffic accidents and a tragic choking incident. The incidents kept the emergency services on high alert, as they responded to different emergencies across the island.

Motorcycle Accidents

In Funchal, a 23-year-old motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a car on Avenida dos Estados Unidos da América in the Bairro da Nazaré. The young man sustained a suspected leg fracture and was promptly attended to by the Bombeiros Voluntårios Madeirenses before being transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

On March 5, another motorcyclist was involved in an accident with a car in the area of Meia Légua, Ribeira Brava. The rider suffered abrasions and was also taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for treatment.

Car Accident in Funchal

A serious car accident occurred in the tunnel of Pestana JĂșnior, Funchal, involving a capsize. A 25-year-old man was initially trapped inside the vehicle and had to be rescued by two nurses from the Portuguese Red Cross. He suffered a cut on his arm. Another occupant, a 39-year-old man, complained of head pain. Both individuals were transported to Hospital Dr. NĂ©lio Mendonça.

Tragic Choking Incident

In a non-traffic-related incident, a 52-year-old man tragically lost his life after choking at Caminho da Igreja, Camacha. Despite the intervention of the Bombeiros Sapadores de Santa Cruz, resuscitation efforts proved unsuccessful.
