The incidents, involving both road accidents and an animal rescue, have kept local emergency services busy.
Motorcycle Accidents Across the Island
On March 5th and 7th, Madeira witnessed multiple motorcycle accidents in different locations, resulting in injuries to young men. On March 5th, a 37-year-old man suffered pelvic injuries in a crash with a car in the Boa Nova area of Funchal. He was promptly attended to by the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses and transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further treatment.
Another incident on the same day involved a different motorcyclist in the Meia Légua area of Ribeira Brava. This individual sustained abrasions and was also taken to the hospital. Then, on March 7th, a 23-year-old motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a car on Avenida dos Estados Unidos da América in the Bairro da Nazaré. The young man was suspected of having a leg fracture and received immediate medical attention.
Rescue Operations in Funchal
In addition to road accidents, emergency services were also called to a rescue operation involving an animal. A dog, having gotten trapped in a levada, was rescued by firefighters on Rua Engenheiro Adelino Amaro da Costa in Funchal. The dog had sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local clinic for care.
These incidents highlight the critical role of the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses in ensuring public safety across the island. Their quick response and effective handling of emergencies underscore the preparedness of Madeira’s emergency services.
