Mobile Eco-Center Returns to Funchal: Enhancing Waste Management in Madeira
Madeira GuideThe Funchal City Council's mobile eco-center program is back, providing residents with convenient disposal options for hazardous household waste in all ten parishes.
The mobile eco-center, known as 'Eco Juntas', operated by the Funchal City Council, is making a return to the ten parishes of the municipality. This initiative is designed to facilitate the disposal of small hazardous household waste items that are not suitable for regular waste containers.
Starting this month, the mobile unit will spend one month in each parish, offering residents a convenient and environmentally friendly way to dispose of items such as CDs, DVDs, batteries, small appliances, porcelain, ceramics, ink cartridges, toners, lamps, paint cans, mobile phones, and chargers.
This project, initiated by the Câmara Municipal do Funchal, aims to promote sustainable waste management practices among the local community. By providing an accessible option for disposing of hazardous materials, the council hopes to reduce environmental pollution and encourage responsible waste disposal habits.
The Eco Juntas program underscores the importance of community involvement in environmental sustainability. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this service to help maintain the natural beauty and cleanliness of Madeira, a key attraction for both locals and tourists alike.
The mobile eco-center's return is part of a broader effort by the Funchal City Council to enhance waste management infrastructure across the island. This initiative not only supports environmental health but also aligns with global sustainability goals.
