Students from Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz achieved first place in the Nutrichefe competition, showcasing technical excellence and nutritional balance with their dish.

In an inspiring display of culinary talent, students from Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz have clinched the top prize in the prestigious Nutrichefe competition held in Madeira. The event, aimed at secondary and professional education students, announced its winners on March 12th at the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo da Madeira.

Celebrating Culinary Excellence

Lara Jesus and Núria Camacho, the talented duo from Jaime Moniz, impressed the judges with their 'arroz caldoso de atum', a dish praised for its technical quality and nutritional equilibrium. Their victory was well-deserved as they outperformed teams from the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo da Madeira, including second-place winners José Pedro and Simão Ornelas, and third-place achievers Francisco Cruz and Mateus Vasconcelos.

Special Awards and Recognitions

The competition also honored several teams with special awards. Alexandre Faria and Iara Sousa received the Innovation and Creativity Award, while Mariana Gouveia and Beatriz Mendes were recognized for Gastronomic Merit. The Revelation Nutrichefe Award went to Angelina Pedraza and Luciana Abreu for their outstanding efforts.

A Platform for Education and Sustainability

The Nutrichefe contest is more than just a culinary competition; it serves as a platform to promote healthy and sustainable eating. It emphasizes the use of regional products and the reduction of food waste, particularly through the full utilization of fish resources. The event was attended by notable figures, including the Director Regional of Education, João Costa e Silva, and representatives from partner entities such as the ARDITI project AQUAFISH0.0.

The judging panel consisted of experts from gastronomy, nutrition, and research fields, ensuring a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process. Basílio Rodrigues, a chef from Hotel Vila Galé Santa Cruz, and Marcelino Rodrigues, were among the distinguished jurors.
