Madeira's Social-Democratic Workers Convene Regional Council in Prazeres

The Social-Democratic Workers of Madeira (TSD/M) are set to hold their Regional Council meeting on February 28, 2026, at the Clube Desportivo dos Prazeres in the municipality of Calheta. This significant gathering will focus on analyzing current political conditions both regionally and nationally.
A key highlight of the meeting will be the introduction of the new Political Commissions elected in the past week. According to AmĂlcar Gonçalves, the president of TSD/M, the elections saw high participation across all eleven municipalities in the region.
The only municipality to retain its current leadership is Porto Santo, while new leaders have emerged in other areas. This change signifies a positive shift towards renewal and active participation within the TSD/M structure.
The newly elected leaders include Rui Melim for Porto Santo, Henrique Silva for Porto Moniz, Cláudio Gouveia for SĂŁo Vicente, Cláudia Sofia Barradas for Calheta, Rui SerrĂŁo for Ponta do Sol, Marcelo Caldeira for Ribeira Brava, IlĂdio Sousa for Câmara de Lobos, David Inácio for Santa Cruz, JoĂŁo AndrĂ© Teixeira for Machico, Marco Pedro Freitas for Santana, and Ana Bracamonte for Funchal.
Additionally, the meeting will approve the list of delegates for the upcoming Regional Congress of the Party, scheduled for April 18-19. Elections for the leadership of Labor Sections will also be planned, taking place in the first half of March.
