Madeira Government Awards €1 Million Canalization Project in Caniçal
Madeira GuideThe Madeira Regional Government has awarded a €1.01 million contract for the canalization of Ribeira da Palmeira in Caniçal, aimed at improving local infrastructure and accessibility.
The Madeira Regional Government, during a council meeting held this Thursday, announced the awarding of a significant infrastructure project in Caniçal. The project, titled 'Canalization of Ribeira da Palmeira Downstream of Rua da Palmeira', has been contracted to Afavias – Engenharia e Construções for a total of €1,010,000.17 with an execution period of 450 days.
This project is a crucial step towards correcting the alignment of the watercourse by implementing canalization and regularizing a section of the Ribeira da Palmeira. Additionally, a new road approximately 210 meters long will be constructed along the water line, enhancing vehicular access to the village center of Caniçal.
The decision to greenlight this project reflects the government's commitment to improving infrastructure and transportation within the region, which is vital for both residents and the influx of tourists that Madeira receives annually.
Moreover, the regional council has approved several other initiatives, including the establishment of a new standard construction cost for 2026, set at €1,020 per square meter. Other significant decisions include the restructuring of the Regional Directorate of Budget and Treasury and the expropriation of land for major infrastructure projects in Funchal and Câmara de Lobos.
These moves are part of a broader strategy to enhance the region's infrastructure, ensuring that Madeira remains a top destination for both tourists and investors.
