Madeira approves €1.42m Fórum Machico revitalization funding

The Regional Government Council approved a contract-programme with Sociedade Metropolitana de Desenvolvimento to finance the revitalization of Fórum Machico's infrastructure and equipment, with funding of up to €1,422,693.
The agreement sets the financial cooperation terms between the Autonomous Region of Madeira and SMD and provides the financial framework for the project. Funchal Notícias reported that Alameda do Artista is scheduled to begin the following day, developed in phases, with the Fórum becoming a culture-oriented space.
The council also altered its contract-programme with SMD for rehabilitation of the Praia Formosa, Socorridos seafront promenade. The change reschedules a maximum global financial contribution of €4.83 million and extends the programme's duration as part of a multiannual reprogramming of commitments.
The revision was considered necessary after no valid proposals were received for the second phase of rehabilitation and immediate reinforcement works, while the intervention still needs to be carried out.
Up to €1.55 million, plus VAT at the legal rate in force, was authorized to restore minimum safety and operational conditions on Regional Road 211 at Passo da Areia, in the parish of Ponta Delgada, municipality of São Vicente. The works follow the storm of 25 December 2020 and are intended to recover safety, circulation and road operability.
The council also approved an alteration to the structure of the Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection.
It authorized a three-year renewal of the non-housing urban lease between SESARAM, EPERAM and CPE, Companhia de Parques de Estacionamento, S.A. for a 2700 m2 space in the Núcleo de Apoio ao Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça, for the hospital's outpatient clinic. The lease runs from 10 January 2027 to 9 January 2030, with a semiannual rent of €63,578.58, an annual total of €127,157.16 and a three-year total of €381,471.48, exempt from VAT.
The Madeira executive also publicly praised Angélica Marcos Rodrigues, Club Sports da Madeira and the Associação de Badminton da Região Autónoma da Madeira for a women's under-15 doubles bronze medal at I Portugal Youth 2026. It also praised Bernardo Andrade de Leça Pereira, Clube Naval da Calheta and the Associação Regional de Canoagem da Madeira for a men's under-23 SS1 ocean canoeing gold medal at the 2026 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships, and Diana Afonso Gouveia, Clube Desportivo e Recreativo dos Prazeres and the Associação de Badminton da Região Autónoma da Madeira for a women's under-13 singles bronze at I Portugal Youth 2026.
Funchal Notícias also listed public commendations for Leonor Raquel Branco da Silva, Madalena Rodrigues Costa and Mariana Malheiro Vargem.
