A demonstration over the cost of living is scheduled outside Madeira's Legislative Assembly in Funchal on Saturday morning.

Jovens do Bloco de Esquerda Madeira appealed for people to join the "Não dá mais para viver assim" demonstration at 11:00 on Saturday, 10 October, in front of the Assembleia Legislativa da Madeira in Funchal.

The protest aims to draw attention to the rising cost of living and the economic difficulties faced by families. The youth structure identified housing, food, fuel and other essential goods as factors worsening living conditions.

Jovens do Bloco said the demonstration should remain non-partisan and independent of political structures. The organisers said the mobilisation should warn the Regional and Republic governments that the population's difficulties require concrete responses.

The youth structure said Madeira must join protests planned for various cities in the country. The group said the specificities of insularity cannot be forgotten in discussions about housing, wages and the cost of living.
