Two firefighters, using a light vehicle, managed to quickly clear the obstruction, ensuring the road was reopened for traffic shortly thereafter.
Pedestrian Accidents Raise Concerns
In separate incidents, two women were injured in pedestrian accidents in Machico. On March 8, 2026, a woman in her 50s was seriously injured after being hit by a car in the area of Piquinho. Emergency medical services and firefighters responded quickly, and she was transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital with leg injuries.
Earlier, on March 5, 2026, another woman in her 40s was involved in an accident near the Machico Health Center. The accident involved a vehicle running over her foot. She was also taken to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for treatment.
