Two significant incidents occurred in Machico, Madeira, involving a fallen tree that temporarily closed a road and two separate pedestrian accidents that sent victims to the hospital.

In Machico, Madeira, recent incidents have drawn attention to both natural and urban safety concerns in the area. On March 9, 2026, a fallen tree on Caminho Municipal das Murtas in Ribeira Grande temporarily halted traffic, necessitating intervention from the Machico Municipal Firefighters.

The emergency team responded promptly with two firefighters and a light vehicle to clear the obstruction, ensuring that the road was reopened swiftly to minimize disruption.

In separate incidents earlier in the week, two women were injured in pedestrian accidents in Machico. On March 8, 2026, at the site of Piquinho, a woman aged between 50 and 60 was hit by a car, resulting in significant leg injuries. She was quickly taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for medical treatment.

A few days prior, on March 5, 2026, another pedestrian accident occurred near the Machico Health Center. A woman in her 40s sustained injuries when a car tire ran over her foot. She was also transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

These events highlight the importance of road safety and infrastructure maintenance in Madeira, a region known for its winding roads and lush landscapes. The incidents have prompted local authorities to reassess safety measures to protect both residents and visitors.
