IFCN delegation to attend National Forestry Congress in Coimbra
Madeira's forestry institute will present four technical-scientific works and a Porto Santo forest-history documentary at the congress from 5 to 9 October.
The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) will take part in the 10th National Forestry Congress at the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra from 5 to 9 October. The delegation comprises Manuel Filipe, Nuno Serralha, Roberto Abreu and Natália Nunes.
The congress theme is "Floresta, Pessoas e Território: Conexões Sustentáveis". Held every four years by the Portuguese Society of Forest Sciences, the event will include four technical-scientific works from the IFCN delegation on forest restoration, phytosanitary issues and urban forest, placing Madeira and Porto Santo in the national debate.
The programme also includes the premiere of a documentary on the forest history of Porto Santo, made by Francisco Manso and professor Francisco Castro Rego.
The previous congress was held in Funchal in October 2022. It was the first time the national forum was held in Madeira, and it gathered about 250 participants with special focus on the specific characteristics of Madeira's forest.
Eduardo Jesus said IFCN's presence demonstrates Madeira's ability to contribute actively to reflection and to building responses to forest challenges at regional and national scale.
