Seventeen new recruits join Funchal's Fire Brigade, embarking on a rigorous training program in Lisbon, highlighting the city's commitment to enhancing public safety.

In a significant move to bolster public safety, the Funchal City Council has officially welcomed 17 new recruits to the city's Fire Brigade. These new firefighters will begin an extensive training program starting next Monday in Lisbon.

The contracts with these new recruits were signed in a formal ceremony held in the Sala da Assembleia Municipal. Present at the event were Carlos Rodrigues, the Vice-President of the Funchal City Council, who oversees Civil Protection and Fire Services, along with Diogo Gomes Barreto, the councilor responsible for Human Resources, and José Minas, the Commander of the Funchal Fire Brigade.

The training program is divided into two phases. The initial six months will involve theoretical training at the Escola do Regimento de Bombeiros Sapadores in Lisbon, a specialized institution dedicated to professional training in fire services and civil protection. This will be followed by practical training back in Madeira, allowing the recruits to apply what they have learned in their local environment.

This initiative is part of Funchal's broader strategy to modernize and enhance the capabilities of its fire services. The city has been investing in new equipment and continuous professional development for its fire personnel, aiming to ensure a high standard of safety and service for both residents and visitors.

The decision to train the new firefighters in Lisbon underscores the city’s commitment to equipping its personnel with the best possible skills and knowledge. Such efforts are crucial in maintaining the high safety standards expected in a popular tourist destination like Madeira.
