Funchal to mark World Animal Day at Jardins do Lido

The Municipality of Funchal will mark World Animal Day and Veterinary Doctor Day for the fifth consecutive year on Saturday, 3 October, from 10:00 to 13:00 at the Jardins do Lido.
The programme will begin with a Blessing of the Animals, followed by a public awareness session on 'O papel do MĂ©dico Veterinário nas Intervenções Assistidas por Animais'. Veterinarian SĂlvia Vasconcelos, of the Direcção Regional de Pecuária e Bem-Estar Animal, will lead the session.
A dog parade will be open to dogs of all ages, breeds and sizes accompanied by their guardians. All participants will receive a themed gift.
Stands will include Funchal-based animal protection associations AMAIS, Vamos Lá Madeira, Patinhas Felizes, Ajuda a Alimentar CĂŁes and SPAD, as well as the Associação de Ornitologia da Madeira. According to Funchal NotĂcias, Madpets, Agriloja, Dogtel, Escola, Resort & Spa and Escola Canina, Dog Happy Time will also take part.
The initiative aims to raise awareness of animal welfare and underline the role of veterinary doctors in protecting animal health and public health.
