Funchal mobile ecocentre installed in Sé until 2 November
Funchal's Mobile Ecocentre is on Rua Tenente Coronel Sarmento in Sé throughout October, accepting household items that do not belong in conventional bins.
Funchal City Council's Mobile Ecocentre is installed in the parish of Sé during October, on Rua Tenente Coronel Sarmento, and will remain there until 2 November.
The service is part of the Eco Juntas project, which makes the equipment available on an itinerant basis across the municipality's ten parishes. It is intended to make it easier to correctly dispose of small household waste that should not be placed in conventional bins.
Accepted materials include batteries, CDs and DVDs, small electrical appliances, mobile phones and chargers, ink cartridges and toner, lamps, paint cans, kitchen utensils, porcelain and ceramics, among other waste.
The project was presented in March 2025. During its first year, the equipment spent one week in each parish and collected approximately 345 kilograms of waste. In 2026, the council extended each stop to one month to reinforce public participation.
After Sé, the initiative will move to Imaculado Coração de Maria in November and Monte in December. The municipality says it aims to bring waste-collection services closer to residents and encourage more responsible separation and management of household waste.
This site previously reported that Madeira schools collected over seven tons of electronic waste.
