On March 8, 2026, a dramatic rescue operation unfolded in the Penteada area of Funchal when the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses were called to assist an elderly man in distress. The man, in his seventies, was found prostrated inside his home. Emergency responders, including four firefighters and the Emergency Medical Intervention and Rescue (EMIR) team, gained entry through a window to provide immediate assistance. The victim was subsequently transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further medical evaluation.
Unauthorized Fire in Monte
Earlier the same day, the fire department tackled an unauthorized fire in the Caminho dos Lombos area of Monte. A team of three firefighters managed the situation using a light vehicle, preventing potential escalation and ensuring public safety.
