The Madeira community mourns the passing of four beloved residents, honoring their lives and contributions. Funerals have been held across the island to commemorate their memories.

The Madeira community is currently in mourning following the recent passing of four esteemed residents: Manuel da Conceição Andrade, João Izidio Figueira Ferraz, João Alberto Melim, and Irene Maria Pestana de Andrade. Each individual left a profound impact on their families and communities, and their loss is deeply felt across the island.

Manuel da Conceição Andrade, a long-time resident of Rua Manuel Afonso Sanha, Ponta Delgada, was celebrated in a funeral service held at the Parish Church of Bom Jesus. His family, including his children and granddaughter, gathered to honor his memory.

João Izidio Figueira Ferraz, from Vereda dos Arrifes, Câmara de Lobos, was laid to rest following services at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Angústias. His extensive family, including his wife, children, and grandchildren, were present to pay their respects.

In Porto Santo, João Alberto Melim was remembered by his large family, including his wife Maria and their children. His funeral took place at the Santa Catarina Cemetery, where family and friends gathered in mourning.

Irene Maria Pestana de Andrade, whose roots were in Ribeira Brava, was honored in a service at the São Martinho chapel. Her family expressed their gratitude to the medical staff at Lar Vela Vista for their care and support.

Each family has planned additional commemorative services, including the traditional 'missa de 7º dia,' a Mass held seven days after the funeral to pray for the deceased's soul. These services are an integral part of Madeira's cultural rites and reflect the strong community ties and traditions on the island.
