Madeira GuideAround 60 students at Ponta do Sol Secondary School are testing TutorIA, an AI-based virtual tutor, as part of a pilot project aimed at integrating technology into education.
In a technological leap forward for education on Madeira Island, the Ponta do Sol Secondary School is pioneering the use of an AI-based virtual tutor, TutorIA. This innovative project involves around 60 students from the 10th grade, who are utilizing the system as a support tool in their studies.
The TutorIA project is part of a broader initiative to modernize education through technology, aligning with the 'classrooms of the future' concept. This initiative is currently in its pilot phase at Ponta do Sol and Santa Cruz schools, where students and teachers are receiving specialized training.
During a recent visit to the school, the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, expressed his support and enthusiasm for the project. He highlighted the importance of integrating technology into education to better prepare students for the future.
Fernando Pinho, the project coordinator, explained that TutorIA functions by using a chatbot designed to address students' questions in various subjects, including Portuguese, Mathematics, and Philosophy. This system aims to provide personalized support tailored to the curriculum, enhancing learning outcomes.
The introduction of TutorIA is seen as a significant step towards embracing digital tools in education, offering a more interactive and engaging learning environment for students. This project not only reflects the growing trend of using AI in education but also emphasizes Madeira's commitment to technological advancement.
For both locals and tourists interested in the educational landscape of Madeira, this development marks a notable shift towards future-ready schooling, potentially influencing educational practices beyond the island.
