February 28, 2026, was an unusually busy day for the emergency services in Funchal, Madeira. The local firefighters and medical teams were dispatched to handle a series of incidents that required urgent attention. These events occurred across different parts of the city, highlighting the unpredictable nature of emergency response work.

Young Worker Injured in Workplace Accident

The first incident involved a young worker, aged 27, who was injured in a workplace accident at Caminho da Cova do Til, Santa Rita. The accident occurred when a trailer ran over his foot, causing significant injury. This required immediate medical attention, and the man was quickly transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital by the Funchal Firefighters.

Elderly Woman Rescued After Fall

Earlier in the morning, the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters were called to assist an elderly woman in the Imaculado Coração de Maria area. The woman, in her 80s, had fallen and sustained injuries. She was attended to on-site before being taken to the same hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Violent Assault at Pico dos Barcelos

In a separate incident on February 26, a young woman was assaulted with a bottle at the Conjunto Habitacional Pico dos Barcelos. The 27-year-old suffered two cuts to her head and required urgent medical care. She was also transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, and the police were called to investigate the assault.
