A modern indoor complex with a heated 25 m pool and a shallow learning tank, sold by the 50-minute slot and cheapest in the middle of the day.

The water sits at about 28 degrees and there is a genuine shallow tank as well as the 25 m pool, which is the combination a family with a small child needs on a wet afternoon. The catch is the timetable: weekdays only, shut all weekend. Under-twelves swim in the water-adaptation regime, always with one or two adults in the water; free swimming starts at 12, and from 12 to 16 the guardian has to be present.

Worth knowing: Swim caps are compulsory for everyone and reception sells both caps and swim nappies, so a forgotten cap does not end the outing. There is a capacity limit - phone or email ahead if you are driving from Funchal.

Single 50-minute entry: 25 m pool 2.80 € at 08:00-10:00 and 18:00-21:00, 2.20 € from 10:00 to 18:00; the learning tank 3.90 € and 3.20 € on the same bands. A 25-entry children's card is 43 € but debits two entries a visit, one for the child and one for the adult, so it only pays if you come back. Cards never expire and are sold at reception only, cash or card.
