A 25 m six-lane covered pool at the head of the Curral das Freiras valley - the only indoor pool in the Câmara de Lobos municipality.

Built in 2011 and run by the regional sports directorate, it carries the local club's swimming section and two adult hydro programmes rather than family swimming sessions. Nothing about opening hours or casual entry is published anywhere, so this is a phone call rather than a drive-up - and it is half an hour of hairpins above Câmara de Lobos to find out.

Worth knowing: If you searched for a municipal pool in Câmara de Lobos town, stop: there is none. The municipality's own sports guide sends its residents either up here or down to the Penteada complex in Funchal.
