Rigo 23 and the story of Ribeira Seca at Casa da Cultura de Santa Cruz

"31 de Fevereiro com a Ribeira Seca, II" is an exhibition by the artist Rigo 23 at the Casa da Cultura de Santa Cruz, open from 16 October 2026 to 9 January 2027. It was put together with Madeiran artists, activists and academics, and it looks at the parish of Ribeira Seca in Machico and at Father José Martins Júnior, a friend of the artist. A line from a Sérgio Godinho song runs through it. Four Madeiran artists, Cristiana Sousa, Rafaela Rodrigues, Samuel Jarimba and Carlos Costa, painted murals straight onto the gallery walls. On Saturdays during the run, the venue's amphitheatre hosts sessions where people who lived the story share their memories. Worth the trip if Madeira's recent social history interests you more than its scenery.
