The Funchal Harbor Master has issued a severe weather warning for Madeira, predicting strong winds up to 62 km/h. The alert is effective for 24 hours, emphasizing safety for local residents and tourists.

The Funchal Harbor Master has announced a severe weather warning for the Madeira region, following an alert from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). The warning, categorized as Signal 6, highlights the potential for strong winds affecting the archipelago.

According to the warning, winds are expected to reach strengths of force 7, with speeds between 51 to 62 km/h, and may come from any direction. Specifically, the wind is anticipated to be fresh to very fresh from the northeast, occasionally becoming strong starting in the evening.

This weather alert is in effect for 24 hours, lasting until 6:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13th. Despite the absence of an official warning from IPMA, the Funchal Harbor Master advises caution due to the predicted high winds, which could impact both residents and tourists.

Madeira, known for its picturesque landscapes and as a popular tourist destination, often faces various weather conditions that require preparedness. Visitors are encouraged to stay informed about local weather updates and adhere to safety advisories.

The archipelago's geographical position in the Atlantic Ocean makes it susceptible to sudden changes in weather, underlining the importance of such precautionary measures.
